Top trends for A/W 2015
With
cooler weather and earlier evenings beckoning, it’s time to brighten up your
prospects with a new season wardrobe overhaul, writes MaryJaneFashion
Although we’re all slightly dreading it, the
seasons are changing and autumn and winter are on the way. With September
drawing to a close, this is the perfect time to get organised and decide which
trends you are going to invest in this season. As ever, designers and brands
have presented us with a plethora of exciting looks and styles, which you can
adopt and emulate in whichever way you see fit. Broken down for you by yours
truly, here are our favourite looks from the A/W 2015 runways:
Androgyny- Everyone from Cara Delevigne to Emma Watson and Danielle Haim has
been spotted wearing sultry tailoring from designers like Burberry and Stella
McCartney. Sharp and sleek, these suits are sophisticated and come with
high-fashion polish. Nod to the trend by going bare-chested underneath, adding
a hint of sensuality to what is traditionally a masculine look. If you prefer a
more deconstructed tailored look, play with proportion: extend your hemlines to
elongate your figure and casually cinch in the waist. Look to Chloe, Vivienne
Westwood and Marc Jacobs for inspiration.
Folk- A big trend this summer, folk is remaining big news for A/W 2015,
with designers upgrading light and airy summer fabrics for richer and more
complex textures. Velvet, lace and sheer are juxtaposed with suede, shearling
and faux fur on the runways of Alberta Ferretti, Lanvin and Ralph Lauren. These
looks are rustic and earthy, creating drama and movement, proving that where
previously folk was more of a fashion fad, it is evolved and emerged as a refined
sartorial trend.
Winter
florals- For the past few seasons, florals have not
been the sole domain of spring, with designers carrying floral prints and
embroidery into autumn for a moody, wintry feel. The king of floral, Erdem,
leads the charge with opulent colours and fabrics, including rich greens and
blues. Similarly, Matthew Williamson and Dries Van Noten played with jewel
toned colour palettes to present their flora and fauna designs, with the former
contrasting extravagant embroidery with acid floral prints imposed onto his
backgrounds. For a slightly more upbeat version of winter florals, look to
Dolce and Gabbana who made intricate but popping 3D red roses spring forth from
a delicate pink background.
Turtleneck
jumpers- We can always expect to see some form of
knitwear on the runways thanks to the dictates of the cold weather that we all
need to prepare for. The predominant style this season, however, is the chunky
turtleneck jumper. Turtlenecks have been hanging around the fashion peripheries
for a number of seasons, but they are now retuning with a bang. Look to
Victoria Beckham, Boss, Roberto Cavalli and Emporio Armani for the classic
high-neck finish to their knitwear, favouring chunky textures over the more
simple light knit styles.
