Creating a custom t-shirt is a great concept and has been one of the most popular outlets for
illustrators, graphic designers, or anyone in the art industry. Having the freedom to create your own
design has been an important part of business nowadays since people like to have options. People
want to be able to put a personal touch on their shirts by doing their own design. However, as
exciting as it sounds, it also needs a careful process in order to have the perfect custom t-shirt.

Here are five tips for creating a custom t-shirt.

1. Keep your design simple.

While people have different preferences with regards to style and design, it could be a good choice
to keep things simple. While it is true that detail is king, you may find yourself struggling to finish a
design if it is far too complicated. Aim to have the simplest designs that can already relay the
message that you want. Also, think of your brand and your market. What are you designing the t-
shirt for in the first place? The good thing about now is that you can find online stores like
TeeJunction where you can easily create your own design and have it printed.

2. Make use of design sites.

If you are worried that you might not be able to design a t-shirt well if you don’t know how to create
digital images on Photoshop or Illustrator, you can definitely make use of free images on design sites
like Canva or PicMonkey. You can also create your own designs by using their user-friendly tools
that will allow you to create different kinds of image files.

3. Experiment with colors.

Depending on your preferences, you can use bold colors or not. This will also depend on the color of
the t-shirt of your choice. If you want to go for bright-colored shirts like bright orange or neon green,
pair it with a font color that is also bold, but in opposite hue of your shirt. If bold colors are not for
you, you can also experiment with black texts on white t-shirts. It’s a classic look that will go with
nearly everything in your wardrobe.

4. Make sure that the design looks good in any size.

After creating the design, oftentimes, people forget to check if it looks good in the actual printed shirt.
In order to check this, check the first the actual size that you want and make the design using those
sizes. If your design has texts, you have to convert it to outlines first before you print it.

5. Make sure to keep an editable copy of your design.

If in case something needs adjustment on the final printing, it is always safe to have a copy of your
design that can be edited. You want to be able to make some adjustment without having to start all
over again and recreate your design. Sometimes, issues arise with the printer, so you want to be
able to have a back-up so you won’t have to start from scratch.
